I’m not a fan of James White. I don’t know that that comment needs a real explanation. It is what it is. But I will qualify it a bit. I don’t hate James White or loathe him or anything of the sort. It’s just that certain of his theological positions are troubling to me and at times I find his approach on some issues to be grating. Other aspects of his ministry I’m deeply grateful for. For instance, James White of Alpha and Omega Ministries has been throwing down some very helpful, very balanced, and very wise counsel concerning how we speak about Islam. Case in point, consider the first 45 minutes of this video in which he responds to Robert Jeffress’ outlandish comments from the pulpit of First Baptist Dallas. Well done Dr. White. Here’s the video…
I tried, I really did try…….the man (Mr. White) may be very “right” on many levels but for all but the most educated and learned of folk, too long winded to suit me……I “get it”, I “got it” so thanks Dr. Richardson for sharing the post……compared to simplicity and beauty of the Words of Christ, this is a wee bit much for most people….a modern day parable would “get at” the core of his point in a fraction of the time….Thank you again for sharing and I find it not just a little annoying………so much detail over something a painting or a parable could communicate or even “sands in a hour glass” might suffice. Go figure. Too much sand and time for most “common rabble” like me.
John, thanks for the comment. I actually agree 100%! White could say what he needs to say in a fraction of the time. It’s one of the things I struggle with. But I am thrilled to hear somebody saying what he is saying.
Ok. James is usually honest, but he butchers Sack of Constantinople. Please open the wikipedia article and read it. But that’s beside the point. Christians don’t go around saying what great works these things were. Islamist terrorists are happy in their millitant jiihad. It’s not an embarrasment to them that Arabs went Donkey Kong on their neighbors who never troubled them. To them it was a religious “white man’s burder” to save those people from unbelief.
That’s the crucial difference. Hamas is proud to be Hamas. Suicide bombings are not an embarrasment. They are a great display of self-sacrifice.
Saying ISIS is not true Islam is like JWs saying Baptists are not true Cheisitians. Well, Baptists think they are! This entire “don’t call it Islamic terrorism, they are not true Muslims” shtick from Muslim PC police is hogwash. Let’s ask THEM themselves if they’re really Muslim
